Colour Vision Test (Colour Blindness Check)
Can you see the numbers in the circles? This free self-check from ORINvue screens for red-green and blue-yellow colour blindness (rang andhapan) in about 2 minutes. It is a quick screening on your screen, not a diagnosis.
Before you start
- Turn screen brightness to full and switch off night mode, blue-light filter or reading mode.
- Sit about 75 cm (an arm's length) from the screen, in normal room light, not in the dark.
- Wear your glasses or contact lenses if you normally use them.
- Look at each plate for 3–5 seconds. Do not zoom in or tilt the screen.
- Keep both eyes open. If colours seem different in one eye, repeat the test with the other eye covered.
Shuru karne se pehle (Hinglish)

What is colour blindness (rang andhapan)?
Colour blindness, or colour vision deficiency, means some colours are hard to tell apart. Most people with it are not "blind" to colour: they see colours, but certain pairs such as red and green, or blue and yellow, look similar. It is usually inherited and present from birth, and it is much more common in boys and men because the genes for red-green colour vision are on the X chromosome.
- Red-green (protan and deutan): the most common type. Reds, greens, browns and oranges can look alike.
- Blue-yellow (tritan): rare. Blues and greens, or yellows and pinks, can be confused. It can also appear later in life with some eye or health conditions.
- Complete colour blindness (monochromacy): very rare, usually with poor vision and light sensitivity.
Colour vision that changes in later life, or differs between your two eyes, is not the inherited kind and should be checked. Read our full guide: Colour Blindness (rang andhapan): symptoms, types and tests.
How this test works
Each plate is a circle of coloured dots. A number is drawn using dots of one colour family among dots of another colour family, with brightness mixed up so the number can only be found by colour. People with normal colour vision see the number; people with a colour vision deficiency may see nothing or a different number. These plates were designed by ORINvue for this page. They follow the same idea as clinical colour vision plates but are not a copy of any clinical test, so they cannot replace one.
Honest note: phone and laptop screens all show colours a little differently, and brightness, night mode and room lighting change what you see. Treat this as a quick screening check, not a diagnosis.

Is an online colour vision test accurate?
It is a screening check only. Phone and laptop screens show colours differently, and brightness, night mode and room light all change the result. A missed plate means you should get a proper colour vision test; an all-correct score makes normal colour vision likely but is not a diagnosis.
What does it mean if I miss the red-green plates?
Missing two or more red-green plates can be a sign of red-green colour vision deficiency, the most common type of colour blindness (rang andhapan), which affects roughly 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women (figures vary between populations). Get a proper colour vision test to confirm it and to know the type.
Can colour blindness be cured?
Inherited colour blindness has no cure, but most people adapt well. Special tinted lenses can make some colours easier to tell apart for some people, though they do not restore normal colour vision. Colour vision that changes later in life can be linked to other eye or health conditions, so it should be checked.
Who should get a colour vision test?
Children before choosing school streams, anyone applying for a driving licence, the armed forces, railways, aviation, electrical, chemical or design jobs, and anyone who notices that colours look different from before or different in each eye.
